The Great Russian Ballet invites you to see one of the most popular love stories of all time, “Romeo and Juliet”. Today one of the most accomplished dancers to perform this emotional role of Juliet is Natalia Balan, the prima ballerina for The Great Russian Ballet. She will be joined by our guest-star from the Ukraine National Ballet, Vasili Bogdan, to perform the role of Romeo. They portray the quintessential lovers with youthful charm, emotional depth and masterful technique. The Ballet begins with a feud between the Capulets and the Montagues. Romeo Montague crashes a party at the Capulet house where he meets Juliet Capulet and falls instantly in love with her. On the balcony at night’s end, the two proclaim their eternal love. Hoping to put an end to the family feud, Friar Lawrence secretly marries the couple. Later, Juliet’s cousin Tybalt kills Romeo’s friend Mercutio in a fight. A distraught Romeo kills Tybalt in a fit of revenge, and is sent into exile. Juliet turns to Friar Lawrence for help and he devises a plan: Juliet is to drink a sleeping potion to make her appear dead. When she is buried in the family tomb, Friar Lawrence will tell Romeo the truth and he will rescue her. The news of Juliet’s death reaches Romeo, but not Friar Lawrence’ message. Believing Juliet to be dead, Romeo goes to her, drinks a poison and dies. Juliet awakens to the horror of her dead lover and decides to take her own life. Sporting spectacular new costumes and crackling choreography, this is the Great Russian Ballet. Romeo and Juliet as you’ve never seen before, performed by the most talented artists, will leave you breathless and wanting more!
The post Romeo and Juliet first appeared on Great Russian Ballet.

The Great Russian Ballet invites you to see one of the most popular ballet productions of all time. This death-defying love story, “Giselle”, is a masterpiece in two acts with music by Adolphe Adam, and choreography by Marius Petipa.

First created in 1884 for the Imperial Russian Ballet, Petipa’s definitive version was performed by the Russian Ballets (Ballets Russes) in 1910 at the Palais Garnier. The role of “Giselle” is one of the most sought-after characters in ballet. It demands both technical perfection, and outstanding grace, as well as great dramatic skill.

In the first act, Giselle has to convey the innocence and love of a country girl, and the heartbreak of being betrayed. In the second act Giselle must seem otherworldly, yet loving and forgiving. Today one of the most accomplished dancers to perform this role is Natalia Balan, the prima ballerina for The Great Russian Ballet. For the 2018 – 2019 Canadian Tour she will be joined by an all-star cast of 40 highly skilled ballet dancers all trained in the Vaganova method.

Enjoy a fantastic journey, through epically decorated sets, fabulous costumes and a masterful choreography, that leads the heart through this touching and deeply romantic love story.
The post Giselle first appeared on Great Russian Ballet.

The scenario, initially in four acts, was fashioned from Russian folk tales and tells the story of Odette, a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer’s curse. The choreographer of the original production was Julius Reisinger. The ballet was premiered by the Bolshoi Ballet on 4 March 1877 at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. Great Russian Ballet bases its stagings both choreographically and musically on the 1895 revival of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, first staged for the Imperial Ballet on 15 January 1895, at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. The most notable staging of the Petipa/Ivanov Swan Lake for the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow, in 1901 was by Adelaide Giuri as Odette and Mikhail Mordkin as Prince. Great Russian Ballet principal dancers’ brilliant technique, fabulous execution and endless emotional passion will spell-cast every ballet amateur!
The post Swan Lake first appeared on Great Russian Ballet.
